"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" Nelson MandelaWelcome
If you had the opportunity to change the world, would you take it? Or do you just take it for granted. Maybe, you never had the choice. Many believe ‘changing the
world’ needs to be a large scaled act or gesture. We believe that a small act or gesture will have positive bearing in people’s lives. By this, we aim to supply funds in order to provide development and an education for three communities in Sierra Leone.
In England, we are privileged to have the chance to make the most of our lives, be it through creative, educational or vocational opportunities. For less fortunate citizens, in deprived countries around the world, the option of progressing and aspiring is limited. Many people have asked us why we have chosen to assist Sierra Leone, when there are children in our country who ‘need help and money’. The answer is simple, the communities we aim to assist, are part of a society very different to ours. They do not have the political, social, educational or medical access and support that we do. The civilians of Sierra Leone have endured the horror of a civil war. Many were left with horrendous memories and life changing injuries. Besides their suffering and incapacity, many civilians also lost all their possessions and homes.
Can you imagine losing everything in your life and having no fault or power in the matter. Can you imagine a life where your dreams consist of going to school, getting a job and living beyond the age of 30? We have, and that is why we want to help. All we can do is ‘imagine’, as we will never know what it feels like to live a life, where most of our loved ones are deceased; a life, with no home and no income; a life, without education, sanitation and medication; a life with no hope.
Here is our chance to ‘change the world’... or at least give the children of Sierra Leone a chance to ‘change their world.’ The opportunity to learn and develop is imperative for the progression of mankind. Our small gesture, of offering such opportunity will benefit the lives of many children and their families, in Sierra Leone. Perhaps, amongst the children we help, there could be future politicians, scientists or inventors... The impact they could have on our world might be revolutionary. Maybe then, people will realise that all kind gestures, small and large, will affect mankind in some way or another.
We are currently a non-profit making project aiming for full charity status, we are in the process of acquiring a charity registration number. To obtain the registration number we must show evidence and raise £5,000 per annum. We recently held a fundraiser and raffle and have raised over a thousand pounds. We are very grateful to those who supported us. Our aim is to help build and renovate schools and supply educational, play and sports resources and equipment to deprived communities in Sierra Leone and eventually, around the world. The project will potentially provide employment and assist communities in becoming self-efficient as well as offering a sense of unity and hope.
